So I recently resumed studies, part time and virtual at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. In my sculpture class we had our first quick start assignment to create a piece solely with food. As it so often happens, issues surrounding my choice of sculpting materials creep into the process. And there are so many issues around food today. Here is my nod to the perfectly genetically modified fruit. It’s titled “And Why Not?”
There were a few issues with the creation of this piece. The first and most important was the means of attachment. The linguine noodles I used softened at an alarming rate of speed, causing the fruit to clunk on the table. Juice poured from the fruit which the bakers clay began to absorb. By the time I got my camera set up I had to rebuild as most of the noodle attachments had softened. A little devil on my shoulder kept whispering “toothpicks, toothpicks” But I resisted. 😇At the end of the day we had amazing smoothies.
